Advisory Type: Water Quality Advisory Notice
Details: In compliance with Interior Health Authority regulations the South East Kelowna Irrigation District has downgraded a Boil Water Notice to a WATER QUALITY ADVISORY for water users on the surface water system. The average Turbidity in the District’s surface water supply has averaged fewer than 5 NTUs over the past 24 hours. Residents in the Hall Road area receiving well water are not under any water quality alerts. Recent testing shows that current surface water quality is rated as FAIR under the IHA criteria for public notification.
The Interior Health Authority makes the following recommendation for a Water Quality Advisory: “Children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and anyone seeking additional protection drink boiled water or a safe alternative. For these at-risk populations, water intended for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute. Boiled water should then be refrigerated in a clean, covered container. Customers could also choose to use bottled or distilled water, or water that has been filtered through a well-maintained treatment device.
“Owners of all public facilities are requested to post Water Quality Advisories at all sinks or drinking water fountains accessible to the public (alternatively, public fountains and taps may be turned off). As opportunities arise, they must also advise their clientele verbally of the Water Quality Advisory. “
SEKID would like to inform residents that we are maintaining disinfection throughout the distribution system and recent tests show low microbial levels in our raw water supply. The South East Kelowna Irrigation District apologizes for the inconvenience and confusion these notifications cause our customers and appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time.
Residents who are unsure of who their water source is can go to www.kjwc.org and click on the tab “Who is my water supplier?” You can also register to receive water quality notifications from your supplier under the “Water quality alert” tab.
